Albergo Centrale Europa is at Via Vittorio Emanuele II 167, opposite Piazza Duomo, where Via Etnea, Via Garibaldi and Via Vittorio Emanuele meet. The Cathedral, Palazzo degli Elefanti and the lava-stone Elephant Fountain, symbol of the city, frame the square, and the centre is part of the UNESCO-listed Late Baroque Towns of the Val di Noto.
Via Vittorio Emanuele II 167, 95124 Catania, Italy
Catania Fontanarossa Airport is about 3.5 km away. The AMTS Alibus runs a circular route from the area in front of the old terminal, stopping at Catania Centrale station and on Via Vittorio Emanuele, close to the Duomo; it runs daily from early morning until past midnight, with tickets bought on board or through the AMT app. Taxis wait outside Arrivals, and the hotel can arrange a transfer with a charge, booked before arrival.
Catania Centrale station is a 16-minute walk away, or take the FCE metro from Giovanni XXIII to Stesicoro, 530 m from the hotel. Drivers should know that Piazza Duomo lies in the historic centre's ZTL, a restricted traffic zone: ask the hotel in advance about registering your number plate for unloading, then use a paid public car park such as Borsellino.

The Cathedral, with the tomb of Vincenzo Bellini, is next door, and the Pescheria fish market, open Monday to Saturday mornings, lies just behind the square. The Roman Theatre is 240 m away, Ursino Castle and its Civic Museum about 400 m, and the Roman Amphitheatre on Piazza Stesicoro 500 m. The Benedictine Monastery, seen on guided tours, is ten minutes on foot.
For a day out, an AST bus leaves Piazza Giovanni XXIII in the morning for Etna's Rifugio Sapienza; check the volcano's status first. The Feast of Saint Agatha, 3 to 5 February, centres on the Cathedral, so book early.
